Young Statehood

1858 Split Rock lighthouse came into existence, its tower still stands near the tip of Duluth, MN point.

July 2, 1864 Abe Lincoln signed charters for the transcontinental railroads including union pacific, southern pacific and northern pacific which ran through Duluth, MN.

1870's Cheston Congdon (a miner and rich) moved to Duluth from England do to the iron range.

Jun 23, 1888 The first whale back barge, 101, was launched along the shore of St. Louis bay near Duluth, MN. Captain Alexander McDougall, the inventor and designer.

1956 Ojibwe Native Americans were required to relocate to Duluth, St. Paul and Minneapolis, MN.

April 14, 1892 Two Harbors lighthouse station-Duluth, MN was first lit. The Two Harbors lighthouse was built to provide safe passage into the harbor and as a result Two Harbors became known as major shipping point for the iron.
